In December of 1776, as Washington's defeated and demoralized army came into Bucks County, they prepared to cross the Delaware. The names of almost all of the soldiers who died at the winter encampment of 1776 are unknown. Tombstones line the bank of the Delaware in the Soldier's Graves area of Washington's Crossing Park.
